The very summit of the mountain has two distinct high areas: the slightly lower southern end, where the road ends in a circle near a forest of radio towers and the higher northern end, crowned by the 1930s-era Vista House structure. In the winter a ski area operates on the peak's east slope, with chairlifts reaching almost to the top. In summer, the summit area of Mount Spokane can be reached by automobile on a good, paved road. So it is not surprising that this forested dome is an important local landmark and the centerpiece of a large and popular state park. ![]() Mount Spokane is the only county high point peak in the United States with the same name as its county, as well as the largest city in its county.
